dna, our political dna. i think the operative word here is courage. my colleague jack hyler, indiana, 1994, i am running for governor because of a controversial issue on the floor. i remember jack standing up and saying, i do not remember the issue, but he stood up and said, this is the vote we should all passed. it may cost me my election, but i think it ithe right thing to do. he passed it and lost. i am not saying that is the reason he did not succeed in his reelection, but it was a statement of courage that i am talking about. from my point of view, this is the right thing to do, take it or leave it. i remember, i was running for governor -- before the primary, i had 100% voting record with the nra. with the assault weapon ban -- the idea that a person could walk to the gun store and purchase and ak-47 did not appeal for me -- to me. i voted against it. i remember -- they said, you could lose the election, you could lose the primary. i said, at least then i know why.
